Granite hill 2020

Wow it has really been a while since I have posted anything on this blog. Time has gotten away from me for sure.
We decided to go to Granite Hill her first trip this season, unfortunately Paul had to work but he was nice enough to take the trailer and set it up for me and the kids. My parents came with us Friday to Sunday so we decided to go up a little earlier just to beat the traffic.  I took the kids in my car and my parents followed us in their car, took about an hour and a half with minimal traffic. We had our favorite site in the middle of the field, when we got to the campground we drove to our site and me and my parents and the kids had a snack. We took a walk to the camp store, with all this COVID-19 stuff going on of course we had to wear masks in the camp store, but, luckily that was the only place that we had to wear them. My father bought the kids a couple of candies, we walked around the little Lake and then we made our way to the bathroom and back to the campsite. Paul got off work early so he wasn't far behind us, it rained for like 5 minutes before he got there so we sat in the cars for a little while . When he got there he set up the camper no problem and I made chicken Caesar salad wraps for dinner. We just hung out at the trailer for most of the rest of the day. Saturday we actually met up with a couple of friends that we've known for awhile who coincidentally were camping right across the way so they came over and we talked at our site for a little while, introduced our kids, they hit it off really well so they spent most of the day Saturday playing with them. They all went to the pool together me Paul and my mom and my dad walked up and watch them play for a little while. Paul left around 2:00 o'clock to go to work so I just hung out with my parents most of the day. Of, course after Paul left the campers that were three sides down from us decided that they wanted to take over the entire field and play Frisbee. My mother father me and the kids all went to the camp store to get out of the camper for a little while and by the time we got back there was a car parked next to my mother's car in our site. By the end of the day they had three cars parked there, I thought that was pretty rude. Luckily by the time it got dark they all settled down, kids were able to sit by the campfire .  JP and Mackenzie played with Tori and Toby until late that night. They were over our friends trailer most of the day and at night them, and like seven other kids played a hide and go seek game that they made up (man hunt). I don't think they wound up coming home until after 11 at night but they had a really good time, and y mom only minimally freaked out. Wendy and Shannon actually have invited us over their house a couple of times but we've always been camping for their parties and I'm kinda beating myself up about not making an effort to go because our kids and their kids hit it off so well. Wendy and I have known each other since elementary school and Wendy Shannon and Paul are all in the Baltimore County Fire Department so they kind of know each other. All the kids exchanged information and hopefully we can all hang out again at home. We went to bed woke up Sunday they had breakfast and they went over and said goodbye to their friends and hung out for just a little while my parents went home around noon. So it was just me and the kids until probably 3 when my cousins wife and her kids came up to meet us to stay until Tuesday. JP McKenzie Danny in Hailey have all hung out before at Ron and Jen's house. They've had a couple of sleepovers they get along for the most part but JP and Danny fight a lot. JP told me before they got there that he was concerned that they were going to exclude him from activities because Danny and Mckenzie get along really well . Mckenzies 12 now and Dannys 9,  JP's 10 and Haley is 2. As soon as they got here they were all bored, they didn't have anything to do JP got a blister on his toe so that impeded him from running a room so they were bored for the first hour that they were here. Then we all decided that we were going to take a trip to the pool and stayed there probably an hour and a half before everybody will starving. All the kids got in the pool and me and Jen sat in our chairs and talked for awhile. Me and Ron haven't really seen each other since we were like 12 somehow we got back into touch with each other and started hanging out more often we all get along pretty well it's nice that we reconnected. So, this is the first camping trip that they've come with us on Ron had to work so he stayed home so it's just me and Jen and the kids. After we got back from the pool we had dinner the kids took Hailey to swing and then we did a campfire . This was all after the fighting and the complaining between Danny and JP. All Danny wants to do is be on his electronics and Be inside in the air conditioning he's not big into nature and he doesn't like bugs. JP's jealous of the relationship that Danny and Mckenzie have so he gets mad all the time because they don’t always include him in playing. So most of the day we were putting out fires between the kids. After dinner all the kids went back to the swings And I started the campfire me and Jen sat and enjoy the peace and quiet. Until the kids came back and the first thing out of Danny's mouth it was too early to have a campfire and he won't didn't wanna do marshmallows until after dark. We did s'mores and the kids played catch with a couple of glow sticks before we went in and made all the beds and talk to the kids in well me and Jen went back outside to sit by the campfire. Of course, the silence didn't last long because the kids insisted on coming back out And I told them once they get pajamas on they're not allowed back outside so they all had to stay inside and figure it out.
On Monday we ventured out of the campground I went to Devils den play all the kids climb on the rocks Jen and her kids have never been to Gettysburg so we showed them all the spots that we normally go to. We tried to visit the visitor center but because of all the COVID-19 stuff it was closed we did manage to go see The Lincoln address memorial and read some of the gravestones that were there. It was so hot walking around but it was fun. After we got done driving around and looking at some of the statues we went to a new lunch spot that Paul suggested called Gettysburger it's right off of the circle in the middle of downtown Gettysburg. we sat and had lunch all the kids were very well behaved everybody ate all of their food. Me and JP got wings they were really good Mckenzie got a shrimp basket and it was like actual real size shrimp. I like a place where you can go and get real food for the kids and not like crappy food. I never understood why more restaurants don't just make kid size portions they have to come up with some lame frozen crap. like kids are people too their food should look like mine only in a smaller portion. So, when we find places like that I keep them in the back of my mind and we definitely go back. When we were all finished lunch JP had a stomach ache so when we went to Mr G's Creamery me and JP didn't get any ice cream I did however go next door and get a bottle of wine called wineberry from a little shop that I didn't even catch the name of. We stopped the store real quick to get a couple more drinks at Kenny's and then we went back to the campground. We were all dying from walking around and we decided we were going to go to the pool well as soon as we got all the way down to the pool the wind started to pick up and a storm was coming in. So meeting the person that I am started freaking out about having the awning out because I didn't want the wind to mess it up so we walked all the way back to the camper sat outside for a little while until the storm calmed down and decided that we were going to go try the pool again instead of walking this time we got in the car drove down there and as soon as we got our stuff on a picnic table someone came and told us at the pools closed because of the storm and that judging from the amount of scattered thunderstorms that were around it would most likely be closed for the rest of the day. Having six people four of which our children under the age of 13 in a trailer trying to stay occupied .a couple more storms rolled through I freaked out more about the awning I was able to start a fire for ten whole minutes so that we could roast some hot dogs for dinner. As soon as I got done roasting the hot dogs it started raining again so I threw on a movie for the kids and we sat in the living room and eight hot dogs and chips because that's all I felt like doing. Of course, everybody complained that they didn't have any room on the couch so the next movie I put in their room so they could all have separate beds and enjoy the movie with space. It's always funny to me that one minute kids get along so well and the next minute they hate each other and then the next minute their friends again but this is how it has been the entire time that Jen and the kids have been here. Fighting on and off complaining on and off it's just been a little insane. With the second movie everybody wanted a snack so I made popcorn they had cookies they fought over who was gonna sit where on the floor and by 11 I gave up and made them all go to sleep.
Tuesday Jen was leaving, we went to the pool around noon Hailey pulled down her bottoms and pooped right there in the grass next to the pool. I though it was hysterical, Mckenzie was mortified enough that she actually just up and left the pool area. I had to empty a bag of Doritos so Jenn could pick it up and we rinsed her butt with a bottle of water. I cried laughing, which was probably inappropriate but what are you going to do. No one was really there and shit happens, although I am glad that I don’t have to deal with that anymore. We left the pool around 2 because Jenn had a meeting for school, after her meeting we sat and talked while the kids sat in the back and watched another movie. While I was sitting Some random person walked into my camper…. Come to find out Paul took off work and came early to surprise us. Jenn left around 530 I guess and in typical Paul and Tobie fashion we fought for a little while about the state of the camper. I wasn’t expecting Paul until 2am so I was giving myself plenty of time to get everything cleaned up…that didn’t happen lol. Took the kids to the pool only to walk all the way up there to find it closed at 5, was a little mad about that. We sat around for a little while and then went out to dinner at a little pub in town and then came home and chilled for a little bit and went to bed. Got everything packed up the next day and got on the road. Paul JP and Elle in the truck and me and Kenzie in the Durango.

Granite Hill Sept 2019

I love everything about camping at Granite Hill in the fall, it's quiet not a lot of people around and we get a site out in a field away from everyone.

Harrisonburg KOA Oct 2019

We came to Harrisonburg KOA for their Halloween weekend, Paul and the kids came up on Thursday and I had clinical so I couldn't come until friday afternoon. Paul said they arrived at 830 and just set the trailer up and went to bed. The next day the went to the grocery store and I arrived around 430. Paul already had the trailer all decorated and it looked really nice. We just ate dinner and hung out at the fire for a while and went to bed around 1030. Saturday was a fun filled day of the playground and making crafts. It was a Harry Potter weekend at the campground so we made wands and bracelets with house colors Kenzie was Gryffendor and JP was Ravenclaw. Kenzie painted a pumpkin and they all played ping pong. Both the kids made friends with just about every kid in the campground they stayed outside pretty much all day long playing at the playground. Me and Paul sat by the big camp fire at the front of the campground and talked and watched the kids have fun. Trick or Treating started at 630 Kenzie was a Bunny JP was some character off of Fortnite. Paul and I were stick figures it took Paul 2 days to make our costumes but they turned out really well.
Trick or Treating started at 630, compares to other camp grounds that we have been to they really don't have a lot of kids walking around we didn't even give out one big bag of candy. When we camp and Harpers Ferry we give out two big bags and still could give out more. I like coming to Harrisonburg though, it's quiet and we have a site on the end so we have plenty of space and all the sites are in the woods on the side of a mountain. Everyone loved the costumes that Paul made we had people take a lot of pictures and our site looked really great all lit up. After tick or treating we did the Haunted Hay ride that was Harry Potter themed it took about 15 min, the campground did a really great job the had lights and prop and people acting and we all got shot with silly string. The gave out Butter beer and Pumpkin juice both were hot. After we got done we ate dinner at 930 and we took everything down because it was suppose to rain. Harrisonburg KOA is a really great family owned campground tucked away. We didn't pay extra for anything but the wood, all the crafts and drink were completely free and you really can't say that about a lot of the campgrounds these days. The new owners are friendly and come around to interact with everyone.

Harrisonburg KOA

We have been staying at the Harrisonburg KOA in Virginia for many years 2 years ago Mrs Monica sold it. Last year we went for Halloween and it was barely full and no one really decorated so we wound up winning the decoration contest but it just plain old boring now. It’s a lot of over night campers and hardly any kids during the week. They still have the chicken and now they have duck but everything is dead by 8. We got there around 5  think and did our normal tradition and got Burger King , I’m pretty sure the Jr whopper has gotten smaller and the price has gone up but that’s neither here nor there. After we got done eating we headed to the campground its only about 10 min away. Got the camper all set up and Paul and the kids headed to the pool while I stayed back and tried to get some school work done. I decided to go down right around 8 and by the time I got down there the pool was closing and so was the camp store and they did the movie while it was still light out???? and it was a Saturday how lame is that. Nothing to do after that so I went to the grocery store while Paul and the kids played exploding kittens and UNO. I cam home around 1120 OMG driving to the grocery store was terrifying Harrisonburg doesn’t believe in street lights and I was in a tinted dualy. I thought for sure I was going to hit a deer or JASON or MICHEAL or some other killer. As I arrived at the super Walmart I breathed a small sigh of relief and then realized I still needed to get back.
Sunday we took a family trip to Luray Caverns, we took the kids there once when they were small JP was still in a stroller and I think Paul carried Kenzie most of the way. I didn’t remember it being that big. My favorite part is the water that reflects the ceiling and makes it look really big. JP pointed out that there was a rock that just looked like it was floating. Stopped a Cooters where they had a replica of that orange car with the number one from the dukes of hazards and the sheriff and the tow truck There wasn’t really anything to see there and They had a blue grass band playing that we stood and listened to. The took another trip to the grocery store for ice cream
Monday we were suppose to go into Sky Line Drive but Paul was sick with the stomach bug so we just steered clear of him and let him do his thing. I took the kids to the pool e had it all to ourselves. They left a couple of times to play on the playground and came back. We left there at 4 to cook dinner t the trailer (outside). Then I took the kids to the indoor water park while Paul rested, another ride down a small road with a very large truck, but we survived and had a blast playing until around 7 when someon threw up in one of the pools and they had to close it for a half hour. I went down one of the big slides with the kids in a three tube and we did the wave pool. We had a really good time but they kept saying it wasn’t the same without dad. On the way home we stopped at the grocery store and got Paul apple sauce and ginger ale and Motrin, poor guy. I made tostidos for the kids at the camper and they ate them like they’ve never eaten before we were starving
